Colour Study

acrylic on illustration board

12" x 12" grid

This work is the result of exploring various patterns and colour scales by mixing only black, white and primary colours. The purity of the hues and tints stand in contrast to the muddiness of the shades, which is a consequence of lightening with white and darkening with black rather than complimentary or a mixture of other colours. The gradients, broken up across the separated tiles, can be more easily picked out from their surrounding patterns when viewed from a sharper angle.
